Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany was infuriated after a VAR call that went against his side and Liverpool fans have slammed him for his previous comments.
Burnley lost to Bournemouth on Saturday but had two moments to shout about. First, was when Jay Rodriguez was deemed to be narrowly offside after a long, detailed check.
Second, was a late handball call that wasn’t even checked by the VAR officials.
Kompany being called out by Liverpool fans over VAR comments
The Belgian was obviously infuriated by the decisions going against him and his side as they succumbed to a loss.
Moreover, he spoke after the game and referred to the process from the officials as ‘going to the casino and putting all your chips on black or red’.
However, he had previously commented on Liverpool’s wrongly disallowed goal against Tottenham.
The video surfaced all over the internet and it was a huge controversial moment as PGMOL were forced to issue an apology.
Although managers across the Premier League took a stand for Klopp’s side, Kompany did otherwise.
“They’re doing the best they can and we all obviously make mistakes.”
Kompany said in favour of the officials.
Even though there is not much harm in the statement, Kompany should have refrained from stating so. That statement was quickly pointed out by Liverpool fans after his recent comments regarding VAR.
The fans stated how all managers would protect the officials until a decision goes against their team.
“Managers only have a problem when it’s against them. Otherwise, their sentiment is just ‘mistakes happen, move on.”
One fan stated.
“After the debacle we had against Spurs every manager had the chance to call it out make a stand. Pretty much all of them either bottled it or let their individual bias, expect it was the latter for Man City legend Kompany.”
Another fan claimed.
Nevertheless, VAR continues to make headlines week after week. However, it’s unlikely we will see a decision that is as bad as the one that we saw with Diaz earlier this season.
