Liverpool travelled to the Northeast to face resurgent Newcastle United in a lunchtime Premier League tie at St James’ Park.

The tough challenge was expected as two of the inform teams of the Premier League of 2022 were against each other. Eddie Howe’s team is in prime form ahead of the tie, having won their last four matches on the bounce.

Meanwhile, Klopp’s team have been winning games week and week out. The away side has to keep winning to put the pressure on Man City at the top of the table.

The home side wants to finish in the top half, and on the other side, the Anfield club wants to win the league.

Newcastle United 0 – 1 Liverpool:

Liverpool made some big changes as big hitter Mo Salah settled for the bench. While Midfielder Fabinho and right-back Trent Alexander Arnold are also on the bench. Joe Gomez filling the right-back spot and former Newcastle player James Milner starting at midfield.

The home side started brightly, as the message was clear from Newcastle, they are going to give Liverpool a hard time. The Magpies offered high press that was completely unheard of before for the black and white side.

But the visitors’ superior class was there to be shown as Naby Keita scored a goal of huge quality in the 19th minute. A calm and a delicate extra touch does the trick, as the goal could prove to be of huge significance.

Liverpool completely dominated the midfield area with former Sunderland man Henderson keeping on moving the ball. The Reds nearly got another goal in the 35th minute but Mane’s effort was saved by Dubravka.

Meanwhile, Jota almost doubled Liverpool’s lead just before the break as he rises in the box to power Henderson’s cross, but Dubravka again makes a good save.

At the halftime, it’s Liverpool who holds a narrow lead.

After the break, Newcastle showed more urgency but it was Liverpool who were close to scoring the second goal. With chances coming for Liverpool, Mane somehow missed a glorious opportunity to put the game under the bag.

With needing another goal to put Liverpool in a comfortable seat, Klopp brought in Mo Salah. Salah’s introduction brought more chances, but decision-making in the final third led down Klopp.

It was that kind of day where chances came regularly for Liverpool but they can’t score. But full credit to the defense, as they kept things tight.

The Reds had chances to kill the game off, but somehow couldn’t. But as the final whistle blew Klopp could breathe easier, after being left frustrated on numerous occasions on the sideline.

Remodelled midfield doing a great job, as Naby Keita’s goal made all the difference.

In the end, it ended Newcastle 0-1 Liverpool.
