Liverpool Football club, have shown great interest in 19-year-old French player Hugo Ekitike.

He could potentially be the perfect replacement for departing legend Divock Origi this summer.

Liverpool are in the fray for roping in Hugo Ekitike

The teenager has been one of the best players performance-wise, in his category. He’s averaging the best amongst all the players of his age in the Top 5 leagues in Europe. The France U-21 player currently represents the french outfit Stade Reims.

Ekitike current form at Reims

The striker has represented the team in 21 games this Ligue 1 season. Hugo has already 9 goals and 3 assists, positioning himself amongst the best in Europe.

Jean-Pierre Caillot the Chairman of Reims has stated that he expects the player to move out of the club next season.

Although, Hugo has a contract which runs for 2 more years, looks to break out of the contract and move.

It would be best for the player to move, considering the opportunity available in the Premier League.

Jean-Pierre Calliot further went on to say,

In Hugo’s case he would waste time staying with us,” (Insisting moving out would be better),

We refused an offer of €35 million this winter, which is a lot of money for a club like ours. That money will be used to grow and improve the club. Hugo will be allowed to go, and he’s probably going to leave.

said Caillot

Competition from other clubs

Liverpool’s rivals Man United, Man City, and Newcastle are also in the race to sign the teenager.

Reds’ next opponents Newcastle are in talks with the player since January, and talks have only progressed.

It would be interesting to see where the player lands and he surely is going to add good value to any team.

Thus, Liverpool needs someone like him who can come and fill in the super-sub shoes.
