After sealing the deal for Ryan Gravenberch, Liverpool should sign another midfielder – Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips.
Although the Reds have signed the Dutchman, they should still go for the Englishman. With the latest signing of Man City, Matheus Nunes, Phillips would surely go further down the pecking order.
He already was used extremely rarely as Rodri has been in incredible form for Pep. Now with further additions of Nunes and Kovacic, he could rarely start any game for the Sky Blues.
This could be the perfect opportunity to sign the midfielder as Klopp and co have been long admirers of the Englishman.
Would Liverpool sign Kalvin Phillips after Gravenberch?
As per reports from talkSPORT, Kalvin Phillips could move to Merseyside, either on loan or on a permanent deal.
These reports, however, came before the signing of Gravenberch and now it is to be seen if the Reds would still go for Phillips.
After moving from Leeds on the back of an amazing campaign, Phillips has not had a great time at the Etihad. He has struggled to make any starts and replace Rodri from the starting XI.
Moreover, the City man has been hailed as an ‘absolute monster’ by reporter Jordan Campbell.
He recorded a rating of 7.21 during his amazing campaign with Leeds. Also, the midfielder had a pass completion of 85% and averaged 1.2 key passes per game.
Furthermore, he averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, and 1.7 clearances per game from his holding midfield role. These numbers are enough for Klopp to admire the midfielder.
Phillips could be the kind of number 6 the German has been craving for. Moreover, he could be the perfect heir, if not better, to the departed Fabinho.
Also, new signing Ryan Gravenberch is a great option for the Reds but he is more of a box-to-box midfielder. He isn’t a natural holding midfielder whereas, Phillips fills that void.
Hence, even with the new signing, Liverpool should go for Kalvin Phillips this summer and complete their rebuild.
