Liverpool call up 20-year-old midfielder Elijah Dixon-Bonner ahead of Atletico clash

Liverpool have given a surprise spot in their Champions League squad to the 20-year-old midfielder, Elijah Dixon-Bonner.

The Reds landed in Spain on Monday evening ahead of their clash against Atletico. Jurgen Klopp’s side will face Simeone’s side for the third time.

During their 2019-20 Champions League campaign, the Reds faced an early-round of 16 exit against the Spanish side with a score of 3-2 on aggregate.

Liverpool are currently toppers of group B with 6 points, whereas Atletico are sitting at the second spot with 4 points.

Thiago, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott are all missing for the game, leaving Klopp with few alternatives in midfield.

Meanwhile, Fabinho has returned to the squad and might replace Henderson, Naby Keita, Milner, or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the starting eleven. While the young midfielder, Dixon-Bonner may earn his place in the squad for the trip to Spain, who was a part of training at Kirkby.

Who is Liverpool starlet Elijah Dixon-Bonner?

Elijah joined Liverpool from Arsenal in 2015 and has played for the U18 and U23 teams. The midfielder spent the summer on trial with Portsmouth but they eventually ruled out a move for him.

Elijah is a versatile midfielder and can play anywhere in midfield. The player has goal-scoring abilities and has good physicality.

The player was seen at the hotel in Madrid which suggested he might get involved with the squad.

Tonight, the boss might give him a chance to become a surprising factor. Thus, he might pave his way into the first team. However, it is difficult to see him in the starting 11 but he could surely come on as a substitute for the Reds.
