Liverpool are preparing to sign a Brazillian forward for a £50M+ bid
Liverpool are looking to sign and are preparing a bid for Brazillian forward Marcos Leonardo, according to Bolavip.
Liverpool hoping to land a young Brazillian forward from Santos
The Brazilian newspaper claims that the Reds are hoping to further improve their attacking options this summer. The club has already signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a deal up to £85 million,
The Merseyside club has found 19-year-old sensation Leonardo, one of Brazil’s most sought-after young players and a target for many elite European teams.
According to the source, Liverpool was initially more keen on the youngster from Palmeiras, Endrick. But have since shifted their attention to Leonardo because they want to sign him up before the competition heats up.
It is believed that Leonardo, who has a £50.3 million release clause, would be subject to proposals from Santos.
The Brazilian under-20 international made 35 appearances for Santos last season, contributing to 20 goals (15 goals and five assists).
Klopp’s attempt to strengthen the squad
Jurgen Klopp is eager to expand his options as he attempts to strengthen his squad. The squad is relatively weaker after losing players like Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, and Takumi Minamino this window. The signing may come despite having already put a forward in Nunez this summer and having Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota at his disposal.
Although another recent addition, Fabio Carvalho, can play as a forward in a wide position. But the Reds have virtually lost three offensive players this summer while only adding one. As a result, Klopp may feel that his team lacks depth in the forward areas.
Mane was eventually replaced early by Diaz, who the club signed from Porto in January. The team may try to repeat this move by signing Firmino’s replacement while the seasoned Brazilian is still with the team.
It makes sense to hunt for a youthful, long-term replacement for Firmino since he is on the verge of 30.
In the upcoming weeks, there is likely to be significant progress on this arrangement and Leonardo may serve as this long-term successor.
On Saturday, Liverpool beat championship rival Manchester City in the Community Shield, winning 3-1 as Nunez made his debut for his new team. This marked the start of the Reds’ new season.
