Klopp disputes Clattenburg’s complaint post Liverpool’s win, citing consistent referee rulings during the game against Forest.
Klopp Dismisses Clattenburg’s Criticism: Liverpool’s Victory Stand Upheld
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool‘s manager, responded firmly to claims made by ex-Premier League official Mark Clattenburg regarding Liverpool’s late victory against Nottingham Forest.
Clattenburg suggested that Forest should have retained possession after a stoppage due to an injury suffered by Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.
Klopp, however, dismissed the controversy, pointing out that a similar situation occurred earlier in the match, but in favor of Forest.
He emphasized the consistency in the handling of both incidents and stated that he expected the outcome to mirror the earlier occurrence.
Klopp Stands Firm Amid Clattenburg Controversy
Despite the controversy sparked by Clattenburg’s claims, Liverpool’s victory, sealed by Darwin Nunez’s late goal, widened their Premier League lead by four points.
The ex-Premier League official said, Forest should have had the ball back.
“If the referee stops the game, he has to give the ball back to the team in possession.
That was Forest, When [the ball was] is given to the keeper, with Liverpool scoring afterwards, you can see why [Forest] are aggrieved.”
Clatterburg stated.
Klopp’s response showcased his trust in the referees’ decisions, emphasizing consistency in performance as they chase the league title.
Klopp Defends Referee Decision Amidst Forest Frustration
Despite Forest’s frustration and Coach Steven Reid’s dismissal after the match, Klopp remained unperturbed by the discussions surrounding the late goal.
He reiterated that the decision followed the same pattern as an earlier incident, suggesting that the handling of such situations was consistent throughout the game.
The German Manager said,
“I understand 100 per cent the excitement and the anger and stuff like this of Nottingham, of course.
They fight for everything and I understand that, but I think with the particular situation where it was twice the same then I would say that’s consistent.”
Klopp empathized with Nottingham’s emotions but maintained that the ruling was in line with expectations based on previous events during the match.
