In the realm of Premier League transfers, Liverpool have emerged as a potential contender for the Italian midfielder, Nicolo Barella, who currently plays for Inter Milan.

The Reds have already commenced their summer window by bidding farewell to several players whose contracts came to an end.

However, they have also made an addition to their squad in the form of Alexis Mac Allister, formerly of Brighton & Hove Albion. Manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed the desire to strengthen the midfield, making Barella a prime target.

Clubs Interested in Barellla

Rumors have circulated regarding a potential move to Newcastle United, with reports suggesting a £50 million deal was in progress.

Nevertheless, it has been revealed that such an offer would fall far short of Inter Milan’s valuation of the player.

Fabrizio Romano, an authoritative source in transfer news, has hinted that Liverpool are a club to keep an eye on this summer, as Klopp has long been an admirer of Barella.

Romano also mentioned that Liverpool are actively engaging with various midfielders’ agents, indicating their intention to secure another significant addition in that area.

Is Barella the Missing Piece for Liverpool?

Barella’s performance in the 2022/23 season, which included six goals and seven assists in 35 Serie A appearances, has earned him accolades and caught the attention of top clubs.

However, recent reports from Italy suggest that Inter Milan are unwilling to entertain offers for their prized midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, claimed the Merseyside club could be one to watch this summer:

“I would also keep an eye on Liverpool because Liverpool have always been following the player. Jurgen Klopp has always been a big fan of Barella and so let’s see what happens at Liverpool.

We know they are now busy with Khephren Thuram, Manu Kane and Gabri Veiga so they’re they’re speaking to agents of many midfielders because they will sign at least another important midfielder this summer. But they’re also informed on the situation of Nicolo Barella.”

For Liverpool, the pursuit of Barella aligns with their objective of bouncing back from a disappointing season, where they fell short of Champions League qualification.

The club has already secured Mac Allister and has their sights set on other targets, including Khephren Thuram.

Chelsea in The Race

Chelsea, another Premier League heavyweight, have also been linked with a move for Barella, as they seek reinforcements to compensate for the potential departures, N’Golo Kanté and Mateo Kovačić this summer.

While the absence of Champions League football could be a factor, both Liverpool and Chelsea possess talented squads and renowned managers, making them attractive destinations for Barella.

The midfielder’s arrival would significantly enhance Liverpool’s creativity and control in midfield, while Chelsea aims to find a reliable partner for Enzo Fernandez. It remains to be seen if Liverpool and Chelsea are willing to meet Inter Milan’s valuation of around €80 million for Barella.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, fans eagerly anticipate the outcome of these potential moves, and whether Barella will choose to embark on a new challenge with one of these Premier League giants.
