Joe Gomez is concerned about his World Cup 2022 chances

Liverpool and England defender Joe Gomez is now concerned about his chances of playing for his country in the upcoming 2022 World cup. The 24-year-old defender had a severe knee injury due to which he missed most of the fixtures in the last season. He also missed the UEFA European Championship where England finished as runners-up.

In the 2021/22 Season, Liverpool’s no 12. Is back to fitness but has played only six times. While he has started only twice across all competition. Moreover, he has played only 13 minutes in the Premier League this season, coming from the bench twice.

Joe Gomez signed for Liverpool in 2015 on a five-year contract. Since then he has made 81 appearances for the Red but is yet to register a goal for his club.

Will Joe Gomez represent England in the World Cup 2022?

Joe Gomez got his first call in 2017 and his debut was against the arch-rivals Germany. He came off the bench replacing Phil Jones in a 0 – 0 draw. He has been capped eleven times for his country but is yet to score a goal.

The 2022 World cup will take place between November and December in Qatar. England is a team full of talented players, who have to be in top form to get into the starting 11.

Joe Gomez plays as a centre back and his competitions right now are Harry Maguire, John Stones, Tyrone Mings, and Conor Coady. With Trent and Trippier on the right-side. While Kyle Walker, who also plays as a right-back for his club but he can also play at the centre. Thus, Walker could also be considered as a competitor for Gomez.

With lack of game time to back his performance has now put Gomez out of Southgate’s radar. Thus, now Gomez has to bring out his A-game whenever he’s been given a chance because he is down the pecking order in Liverpool.

With Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate, Gomez has to work his way up. Meanwhile, recently Gomez was also praised by Jurgen Klopp. Thus, even Klopp wants to see his centre back playing for his country.

The Chances looks blurry at the moment for the 24-year-old to represent England in the upcoming world cup. So Joe Gomez has to show the coach that he is in brilliant form in this season to get himself an opportunity to feature his name in the 25 men Squad for the FIFA world cup going to commence in the next year.
