Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has given an explanation as to why the Reds faced a defeat against Toulouse last night in a Europa League clash.
The Reds endured their first UEL defeat last night against Toulouse. The final scoreline at the Stadium de Toulouse was 3-2 which denied the English side the opportunity to secure qualification to the last 16 in the earlier stage.
And most of the fault was of the Merseysiders who displayed poor quality since the beginning of the match. They went 2-0 down within 58 minutes of the game.
An own goal from Cristian Casseres Jr opened the scoring for the Anfield giants and soon Frank Magri’s strike made it 3-1 for the hosts. But Diogo Jota’s goal on the verge of stoppage time reignited the fire within the team.
And even though Jarell Quansah netted the equalizer eight minutes into stoppage time, VAR disallowed the goal because of an apparent handball from Alexis Mac Allister during the build-up. And Jurgen Klopp was really upset with the team’s performance
Gomez explains the reason behind the defeat of Liverpool against Toulouse
While speaking in the post-match interview, the LFC defender said,
“It’s obviously disappointing, we never quite got control of the game. Obviously they went in front and then we never really got control of the game.
They made it difficult for us with the atmosphere but it’s on us. It’s frustrating that the decision didn’t go for us but we shouldn’t have been in this position in the first place.
I think everyone is obviously complaining about it but we have to control the game and it’s easy for us to moan and complain about the decision but I think they will look at it and if it’s a goal, it’s a goal and if it’s not, it’s not.
It is what it is and we can’t control that. All we can do is not be in this position to begin with and not be chasing the game at that point so we have to work on it and go again in the next game.”
The performance from Liverpool was really disappointing considering their current form and compassion. But they will be looking forward to bounce back from this situation.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
