Liverpool are reportedly close to agreeing an extension with kit manufacturer, Nike as they hope they would close in on Manchester United’s mega-deal with Adidas.
The Manchester club agreed on a whooping 10-year deal with the German giants, Adidas. It is understood to be worth £900m over the decade’s arrangement.
However, Football Insiders reveal that the Merseysiders are hoping to extend their relationship with Nike. The Anfield club’s current deal with Niek is worth roughly £70m once 20% of proceeds from merchandise sales are tacked on. Additionally, they are trying to close in on the gap between their bitter rivals.
Although the Reds aren’t in a favourable position to bargain, their impressive start to the new campaign could be a talking point.
With great acquisitions, a perfect start, and an impressive unbeaten run of 15 games, they look to challenge for the title.
Liverpool to strike a huge deal with Nike
The Reds switched over to the American kit dealers from New Balance in 2020. Since then Nike have been Liverpool’s kit maker.
They earn an estimated £50m/year from the deal from Nike. However, they don’t come close to the biggest kit deal in England, which is currently held by their fierce rivals Manchester United. The Old Trafford club is said to earn an estimated £75m/year from Adidas.
These clubs’ rivalry includes the financial superiority amongst them as well. Man Utd’s financial rise to prominence has been remarkable over the last few decades.
It is mainly due to Sir Alex Ferguson’s management when they won 28 major honors in 27 years.
However, Liverpool are slowly closing the gap between their rivals. But for Liverpool’s deal to become the biggest in England, a lot would depend on their performance on the pitch.
Meanwhile, New Balance delivered record sales for LFC with their well-crafted kits. And for Nike to achieve those record-breaking sales, they would need to design the kits with such customization and craftsmanship.
