Fabio Carvalho may be heading for the exit door of Liverpool, just one year after joining the club from Fulham.
The young midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Anfield, with limited game time and lack of opportunities from the coaching staff.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Carvalho could be leaving permanently or on loan during the summer clearout at Liverpool.
Carvalho to Liverpool: A mistake
This news shouldn’t come as a surprise, as the 20-year-old was perhaps not ready for such a big move and should have stayed at Fulham to progress naturally.
Liverpool are looking to bring in two or three midfielders due to injuries and uncertainty over the future of James Milner, which could mean even less game time for Carvalho.
Klopp admitted earlier this season that Carvalho is not happy at the club and has struggled to fit into the system.
“Fabio is a very young player, big talent, absolutely. He played well for us in a couple of games,”
said Klopp in February, when asked why he had left the youngster out of a matchday squad.
“Now it’s the situation where we have to make the squad and he couldn’t make it for the last one. That’s how it is, that’s the truth.
He didn’t play too often because, from my point of view, we needed different skills when we started or when we changed during the games.
That’s pretty much all, he did nothing wrong.”
It remains to be seen what Carvalho’s next move will be, but his transfer to Liverpool has not worked out as planned.
In other words, Carvalho’s brief stint at Liverpool seems to be coming to an end as the youngster has failed to make an impression in his debut season.
The club is looking to bring in new midfielders, and Carvalho’s lack of game time may force him to move on, whether on loan or permanently.
Klopp has acknowledged that Carvalho is not in a good place at the club, and it appears that the move to Liverpool was premature.
What Fabrizio Romano said
The journalist provided his understanding of Liverpool and Carvalho.
“I see Liverpool going for two or three midfielders because Naby Keita is out, Oxlade-Chamberlain is out and James Milner needs to decide on his future,”
Romano said.
“Will they also go for one more striker or another type of player in one of those positions? Fabio Carvalho I am told is also leaving. We have to see what solution they will find but he is young and he is never playing so it is important to clarify these things.”
