Liverpool skipper has recently revealed the role that ex-midfielder Wijnaldum played before Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League final.

Talking to BT sports, Henderson said that players tried to keep things as normal as possible before the game.

Henderson reveales Wijnaldum’s role in Champions League final

Henderson was quoted as saying,

Before the game we always say things whilst we’re getting ready and preparing. Whether it’s me, or Milly, or Robbo, Virgil, whoever it may be. We’ll say certain things that we need to be doing within the game and get us ready for going out. So we kept it as normal as possible.

The skipper then went on to talk about the now-departed midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. He said his words stuck with him.

Henderson then added,

I can remember Gini, just before we went out, saying a few things which wasn’t normal for him, you know, and I think that gave everyone a bit of a boost.

Liverpool are still feeling Gini’s absence in the Liverpool locker room. They are still to replace the midfielder in the team. The current Liverpool midfield is not able to replicate Wijnaldum’s dynamism.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of midfielders touted as Wijnaldum’s replacement, however. The list includes players like Jude Bellingham, Kalvin Phillips, Toni Kroos among others.

On the other hand, Wijnaldum is unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain. A number of clubs are now linked with him including Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa and Liverpool arch-rivals Arsenal.

Could we see Gini make a comeback to Anfield, especially at a time when the Reds are looking to increase their depth in the midfield? Or could we see him move to a fellow premier league club like Aston Villa?

Will it be better for Gini to come back to Liverpool or a shift to a different club in order to progress his career? Does he fit the transfer strategy of Liverpool owner FSG’s planning?
