FA Cup – Liverpool 4-1 Shrewsbury Town: Match Highlights

After the postponement of the EFL Cup tie, it was time for another domestic cup fixture. Liverpool welcomed the League One team Shrewsbury Town in the Reds hometown, let’s have a look at the match highlights.

On paper, Liverpool were surely the better team but Shrewsbury gave their all to trouble a mix of senior and academy team players of the Reds. The kick-off saw Jurgen Klopp back on the sidelines after being tested false positive.

Liverpool were playing the position game but lacking the finishing touch in the forward line. While The Shrews were looking for an opportunity to counter-attack and fancy their chances. Thus, Steve Cotterill’s team took their chance and found an opener from a beautiful cross finished by Daniel Udoh. For a moment fans could not believe that Liverpool were 1-0 down in the opening half an hour on their home turf against a team that competes in the third tier of English football.

Soon after being a goal down, the Reds responded via attacking play in the final third. This led to a calm and composed finish by the young Red Kaide Gordon, who equalized for Liverpool. Thus, with this, the 17-year-old registered his first-ever senior team goal. Soon after levelling the game, Liverpool were back on the track and attacking again. With this, the Reds took a 1 goal lead right at the brink of the first half courtesy of Fabinho’s spot-kick.

The second half saw a disciplined performance from Liverpool. Meanwhile, Shrewsbury were struggling to keep the ball. Roberto Firmino came on the field replacing the youngster Dixon-Bonner, who had a decent game on his first start for the senior team. The two Brazilians sealed the 4th round for Liverpool. With Firmino getting back on the scoresheet and Fabinho getting his 2nd on the day.

With this, now Liverpool reaches the 4th round of the FA Cup.
