Liverpool have had their third bid of £45m rejected by Southampton for Romeo Lavia and now it is reported that Chelsea have submitted a formal bid for the player.
Now, it is reported that the London Blues have made a bid of £48m for the Belgian. This has been the recent update on the Lavia transfer saga.
Liverpool have been reluctant to pay the additional £4m-£5m for the player they consider crucial for their ranks. They feel the player isn’t worth the £50m asking price that Southampton have put forth.
Liverpool to lose Lavia to Chelsea?
As per the Athletic, Southampton have received a £48m offer including add-ons from Chelsea for midfielder Romeo Lavia. The bid from the London side arrived on Wednesday night.
The report says that talks are ongoing with the South Coast club’s asking price being £50m.
However, prior to this, the third bid of £46m from Liverpool was rejected by the Championship side.
This could mean that the Belgian could be heading to Stamford Bridge if the Saints accept the bid from Chelsea.
Lavia was left out of Southampton’s squad for their 3-1 defeat to Gillingham in the first round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
Speaking after his side’s loss, Southampton boss Russell Martin suggested that Lavia would still be at the club by the end of the week.
“I don’t envisage anything changes before now and the weekend but it’s football, right, so anything can happen.”
However, this has made a lot of Liverpool fans angry and upset. It has resulted in fans showing their disappointment over the lack of quick transfer decisions by their team.
Moreover, the same occurred with Moises Caicedo as the Reds had him in their priority list. But they did not feel the price was worth it and now Chelsea have prioritized him as well.
Another case was that of Khephren Thuram where the PL side chose to walk out of the deal. The Anfield club deemed the price to be too expensive and lost a graceful player in the process.
