Fabrizio has claimed that Liverpool walked away from a deal for Khephren Thuram as the overall package was deemed to be ‘too expensive’ for the club.
The French midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Anfield for the whole of the transfer window.
However, it has recently come to light that the deal collapsed due to high transfer fees and salary demands.
While speaking on YouTube, Romano claimed that Liverpool were priced out of a move for the midfielder.
He was also linked to a move to Newcastle United but didn’t rule out the Reds changing their minds before deadline day.
“As I always said, the package was considered too expensive by Liverpool. It wasn’t just in terms of the transfer fee, but also his salary. Many things concerned Liverpool when they had discussions for Thuram, but let’s see if they decide to change their mind on the player.”
Thuram’s compatriot Manu Kone, who plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga was also a target.
However, Romano insisted that he is ‘no longer a priority’ for the Reds as they continue their revamp.
Thuram to Liverpool deal collapsed
Klopp was very keen on bringing the French international to Anfield as he tried to pair him up with Mac Allister.
Moreover, there were many reports suggesting that the French duo of Thuram and Kone would be playing under Klopp the next season.
But the deal for both players was off and the Reds went on to sign Dominik Szoboszlai.
However, that seems to be not enough as the experienced midfield duo of Fabinho and Henderson left for Saudi clubs.
Now the Merseysiders need more bodies in the middle of the park as their opening-day fixture against Chelsea is nearing.
Now, Liverpool are targeting three midfielders, Romeo Lavia, Ryan Gravenberch, and Andre Trindade.
The likeliest of deals could be that of Lavia as personal terms have been reportedly agreed upon. Southampton, however, have rejected 2 bids from the Reds and are expected to receive a 3rd bid soon.
Also, Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Fluminese’s Andre have also been linked with the club.
With the new season coming up soon, it is to be seen how Liverpool would act in the transfer market.
