The Reds have had a difficult start to the new season. And the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has acknowledged his form and how he intends to improve it.

Van Dijk talks about his form and a poor start of the season for the Reds

Virgil van Dijk has acknowledged that his performance with Liverpool has been unsatisfactory so far this season. He feels a great deal of responsibility as the team’s captain for both the Reds and the Netherlands.
The Dutchman felt his form has improved after keeping Robert Lewandowski quiet after leading the Netherlands to a 2-0 victory against Poland on Thursday in Warsaw.
After a beginning of the season that no one could have anticipated from Jurgen Klopp’s team, Liverpool presently stands nine points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. Even Van Dijk has received criticism.

The Liverpool defender to get back to his intensity in the back line

With the quality he shown while Liverpool won every major award under Klopp, Van Dijk is often considered as the finest defender in the world. However, his performances have declined this season.

Van Dijk pushes their defensive line forward wherever possible to make his teammates’ tasks a little bit easier, even though that is obviously led by their front three and backed by a fluid and energetic midfield and their two full-backs.

Van Dijk has helped Liverpool win a Champions League crown and their first league title in 30 years since he transferred from Southampton to Liverpool in 2018 for £75 million.

For Liverpool, Van Dijk plays the position of captain. He plays on the left side of centre defense, despite being right-footed, and is completely at ease there. He radiates confidence and adds a crucial element of calmness to Liverpool’s defense.

On his poor form at the start of the season, Van Dijk said:

“I know I could have done better in the beginning of the season. I’m not naïve about that. I know very well when I make mistakes”

Shortcomings are a part of this game that we love so much. And it is inevitable, that Dutch International will get back to its top form very quickly.
