Alex Oxlade Chamberlain suffers ‘serious’ injury setback

A familiar and sad story for Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, as he sustained a ‘serious’ hamstring injury during pre-season, confirms Jurgen Klopp.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out for more time on the sideline after his latest hamstring injury. The injury comes at a crucial time, with the Englishman entering the final year of his Anfield contract.

Liverpool’s midfield is immensely competitive, moreover, a fresh injury blow will mean he is further down the pecking order.

Oxlade-Chamberlain played through a planned 30 minutes in the previous friendly against Man United. However, the midfielder has been absent since pulling up with a hamstring problem just before half-time in the Reds’ 2-0 friendly win over Crystal Palace in Singapore a fortnight ago.

The former Southampton man, last season played 29 times before falling out of favour by the end of January. Nevertheless, Oxlade-Chamberlain was ready to prove his worth in the preseason.

On the eve of the Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provided a disappointing injury update.

As reported by, Klopp issued an update on the severity of the Englishman’s injury.

With Oxlade it will take longer. It’s a serious hamstring injury and it will take longer. But it’s a hamstring, and we all hate this word, we hate the injury but anyway it happens from time to time and now Ox was the one.

Moreover, Klopp also gave insights about teammate Caoimh Kelleher who is also sidelined with a groin injury.

Caoimh felt something after the international game and everybody told him, the medical department there, it’s fine, it would be good,

After holiday he came back, first training, felt it again. We checked it and it was not good.

I think Caoimh will be another two, three weeks and then should be fine.

Kelleher has been absent since suffering the injury on the first day back in pre-season at the start of the month. While the Reds fans will be hoping that this is not a repeat of 2020, a season full of injury crises.
