Liverpool finally saw an end to their unbeaten streak with the hands of West Ham, with Alisson and Chamberlain being blamed for the loss by many football pundits and Liverpool fans.
The Reds lost 3-2 against the Hammers, who are doing pretty well this season. With a win at home, the David Moyes side is currently third in the table, just three points behind leaders Chelsea.
And with this defeat, Jurgen Klopp’s men are fourth in the table, with some players displaying poor performance. Alisson’s own goal gave a lead to the London side which was later equalized by Trent’s superb free-kick.
Jurgen Klopp substituted Thiago in the 69th minute as Chamberlain struggled to make an impact on the game. The Reds were behind 2-1 at that point of the time.
But things escalated with West Ham taking a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Fornals and Zouma. The Reds tried their best for a comeback with Origi scoring the second but unfortunately couldn’t grasp a late equalizer.
Misery for Liverpool as both Alisson and Chamberlain display poor performances
Many Liverpool supporters are critical of Chamberlain’s last night performance: one of the Reds fan twisted saying
Oxlade-Chamberlain is just abysmal in the midfield. Offers absolutely nothing and has never been the same since his major injury vs Roma. Need to cut our losses and get rid in the summer
The 28-year-old lost four duels and did not register a single shot on goal, clearance, blocked shot, interception, crucial pass, or precise cross. He also lost possession of the ball 13 times.
Alisson on the other hand was wobbly on the goal. The Brazillian is one of the best goalkeepers in the world but last night he was being blamed for all three of the Hammers’ goals.
For the first goal, the keeper could have done a better job from the corner. Out of the 3 goals 2 were from a ‘set-piece’ in the form of corners and the Brazillian needs to work on positioning himself at the right place.
Clinton Morrison, a former Crystal Palace forward, who was covering the match for BBC Sport, made few harsh comments on the Brazillian.
Alisson will be disappointed, it goes under his body and it’s poor goalkeeping. It’s a really poor goal to concede, but a really good goal for West Ham.
The Pundit again blamed the 29-year-old for conceding the third goal:
It’s Alisson again. It’s a good ball in from Jarrod Bowen and Alisson misjudges it. It goes all the way over his head. Kurt Zouma is a threat from set pieces, he wants it, it’s a brilliant header.
It was a frustrating defeat for the Reds and Alisson must realize he could have performed better. However, we must keep in mind that all players make mistakes. Thus, Alisson was having one of those days.
As for Chamberlain, his spot in the starting lineup might be in jeopardy. With Thiago on the bench and Keita and Jones about to return from injury, it’s possible that the German might consider selling him in the January transfer window.
