Young defender Ronald Araujo on Liverpool’s transfer list

Young defender Ronald Araujo on Liverpool’s transfer list

The 22-year-old Uruguayan international and Barcelona star, Ronald Araujo is on the Reds transfer list for this winter.

With a week left of this winter’s transfer window, Liverpool are yet to make a transfer this January. The Merseyside giants made only one signing in Summer 2021 and many expected new players traveling to Anfield in winter.

The Reds started their new year in a positive manner and have won 4 and drawn 2 out of their six games in all competitions. With their recent victory coming away from home against Crystal Palace in the Premier League 3 – 1.

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are looking to freshen up the squad and prepare a team for the long run. Moreover, they are looking for young and potential future stars to join the club. The young players can be the replacement for the current stars and take their place when they leave the club.

Is Ronald Araujo the right man for Liverpool ?

The young defender made his debut for FC Barcelona on 6th October 2018. He was promoted to the main squad for the 2020-21 season. So far, he has made 62 appearances and has scored 4 goals for Barcelona. Moreover, On 16th January, Sport revealed that Liverpool are willing to sign the 22-year-old South American.

Another Spanish news source Nacional claims that Araujo is demanding more wages to sign the new contract at Barcelona. He has been a key player in Xavi’s squad and the Club has requested him to reduce his wages and sign the contract.

Barcelona have placed 50.2 million pounds for the centre-back, and reports claim that the Reds are interested alongside Manchester United, who are also keen to sign him.

However, it doesn’t look like Liverpool needs a defender, especially a center-back. The Reds already have a solid strength to play in that position. Moreover, Liverpool’s only summer signing was also a CB in name of Konate.

It would be wise to use that money to bring in a Centre attacking midfielder who can score goals and create chances week in and out. That’s the kind of player Liverpool should focus on bringing in as they suffer to break down a team that sits deep in their half to defend.
