Liverpool have Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly under their transfer radar. The 23-year-old England International is all set to move back to the Premier League this January. Lloyd Kelly was linked with Newcastle United with a possible move to St. James Park but it will be a tight competition as Liverpool have now joined the race.

Kelly has been vital for Bournemouth in the last 18 months, he was even given the armband this season in the absence of club captain steve cook. The Cherries equalized the club record for 14 games unbeaten in the 2021/22 EFL Championship season. Which was set in 1961, while Kelly started in all of those 14 games.

Kelly made 36 league appearances for Bournemouth last season and he as a total of 65 appearances and 2 goals for Bournemouth across all competitions.

Possibility of Lloyd Kelly making a move to Liverpool in January

It was way back in the 2019 summer transfer window when Liverpool first approached to sign Lloyd Kelly. The young defender is a versatile player who can play as a centre back and a left-back. So Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign Kelly as a substitute for Robbo.

The transfer talks broke down and he moved to Bournemouth for 13 Million pounds. The newly invested Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe wanted to sign Kelly this January as the Magpies are fighting to stay away from relegation this season in the premier league.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are all playing quite well for the Reds at the moment. But Joe Gomez, who recently made his return, coming back from injury has now become the 4th option for Klopp. Thus, with a lack of time on the field, the England international is afraid that he might lose his place in the national squad.

With the World cup coming next year, Joe Gomez wants regular time on the field and thus he might look for a move away from Liverpool.

Moreover, Aston villa’s new manager Steven Gerrard has his eyes set on Gomez. And the ex-Liverpool captain is looking for bringing Gomez to Villa Park in January 2022 via loan. If Gomez moves to Villa on Loan. Kelly would be a perfect player to add strength to Liverpool’s defence. As he is young he can build his way up and he can also be an investment for the future.
