West Ham United 3-2 Liverpool: Player Ratings

It was an exciting Sunday as West Ham United handed Liverpool their first loss of the season at London Stadium.

This also caused West Ham United to go above Liverpool in the points table after their 3-2 win. Liverpool’s marvellous unbeaten streak was finally halted.

West Ham United v Liverpool: Player Ratings

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Alisson (GK) – 4/10

Alisson would not have expected this to happen. Unfortunately, he punched the ball accidentally into his own net. He was just unlucky and it was not his day. The second goal he conceded was off a slight deflection of him. The third goal crept in again from a corner. Needs to remain more focused during set-pieces

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 7/10

Trent was not good defensively but scored a wonderful free-kick goal. He did leave the back open on certain occasions but ran back to cover.

Joel Matip (CB) – 5/10

It was a decent outing for Joel Matip against The Hammers. The biggest problem was that he moved higher up the pitch leaving Virgil Van Dijk alone. This created a lot of space at the back for West Ham to hit Liverpool on counters.

Virgil Van Dijk (CB) – 7/10

Virgil Van Dijk tried his level best to do whatever he could. He was left behind alone with not much support. He appeared good on one-on-one deals but yet could not stop West Ham’s counter-attacking force.

Andy Robertson (LB) – 5/10

Andy Robertson started off on a high but was not able to sparkle much. He was active in making runs but could not provide efficient crosses because of West Ham’s solid defence.

Midfielders

Fabinho (CDM) – 6/10

Fabinho was good for most of the time out there. He won the ball on various occasions and made wonderful feeds. He was responsible too for losing the ball which caused the opposition to hit back.

Jordan Henderson (CM) – 5/10

Jordan Henderson was very good in the first half. It seemed as though there was not much work at hand since The Reds dominated the first half. He did make aggressive runs and therefore found himself choked up.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (CM) – 5/10

Made some great tackles and had a decent outing. Alex came off the pitch after the second goal. He was effective and did great breaking through areas.

Forwards

Mohamed Salah (LW) – 6/10

Mohamed Salah did not find himself on the score sheet this time around. He was putting in all the effort trying to run into the box, but West Ham was too good to stop him. He won the free-kick which was converted by Trent.

Diogo Jota (CF) – 4/10

Jota hardly seemed involved. He did not have sight of the goal after a header went over the goal. Thus he was subbed off later.

Sadio Mane (RW) – 6/10

Sadio Mane also put in a lot of hard work like Salah. He had plenty of attempts created but West Ham was wide awake to prevent him from causing any damage.

Substitutes

Thiago (CM) – 5/10

Thiago came in for Oxlade-Chamberlain and could not offer much to the team.

Divock Origi (CF) – 6/10

Origi came for Jota. He made a dazzling finish on the turnaround to bring Liverpool’s hopes alive.

Takumi Minamino (LW) – N/A

Minamino was brought in for Fabinho and just summed up the game.

A hard day for The Reds. They will look to bounce back to winning ways after the international break.
