Norwich's Todd Cantwell to Liverpoolis on Liverpool's radar

Liverpool are keeping close eyes on Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell whose contract expires in June 2022. With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool will be keen to bring the Canaries star to Anfield.

Cantwell is currently frozen out of the team and this season has been a frustrated one for the Englishman so far.

According to reports from Fichajes, via Caught Offside, Cantwell “does not want to renew his link with Norwich City”.

Moreover, Cantwell was also not present in the squad for the last two games against Everton and Burnley. And the club is citing it as a “personal problem”.

In the last couple of seasons, Cantwell was a star performer for Norwich. He played an integral part in the previous season for Norwich’s promotion to the Premier League.

Should Liverpool bring in Cantwell ?

Todd Cantwell is a neat and creative footballer and has proven to be one of the few bright spots in the struggling Norwich team.

Prior to playing in Premier League this season, he also featured regularly for the Canaries in the English top-flight 2019-20 season.

And Former England U-21 certainly played a huge part in Norwich’s promotion back to the top division. He registered six goals and seven assists last season and came to the Premier League with a lot of confidence.

However, things haven’t gone well this time around, and he is yet to hit the ground running.

But certainly, a good player who plays with high energy levels would only improve if a club like Liverpool offers him the right opportunity.

Liverpool doesn’t have creative options in the squad currently. Meanwhile, with Xerdan Shaqiri’s departure, the Reds have lost a quality creative player and Cantwell can surely fill the void.

If Liverpool could get him on a free transfer when he’s out of contract then it could turn out to be a good deal for the Reds. While his wages will be something that Liverpool could afford happily.

The 23-year-old has shown he is capable of playing at the highest level. Thus, Liverpool should go for him without any hesitation.

Cantwell fits into Jurgen Klopp’s system

The 23-year-old has shown he fits into Jurgen Klopp’s style of playing. He has excellent skills with the ball at his feet and provides spot-on passes.

But the most important aspect in Klopp’s style of play is how a player performs without the ball. As Liverpool presses very high when they don’t have the ball.

And Cantwell fits in when it comes to pressing the opposition. He is more than willing to chase the opposition when they have the ball and press high when needed.

According to fbref.com, in his last full season in Premier League, he has impressive numbers in pressing the opposition and in shot creation.

The Englishman possesses the quality of creating chances as well provide help to the team with his defensive duties.

Cantwell is a player Klopp likes to work on. And he will surely be benefitted from better players around him, he can exploit his full potential with the Merseyside club.
