Corriere dello Sport had reported that Liverpool have already ‘taken the first steps’ to sign Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners in the summer.
Adrien Rabiot and Leandro Paredes are set to leave Juventus after this season. This, coupled with Paul Pogba’s injury woes, has seen them look for a new midfielder.
As per Calciomercato, Koopmeiners’ name is on top of Juve’s list, and are joined by Liverpool and Napoli in the transfer race.
It is reported that Juve are appointing Cristiano Giuntoli as their new Director of Football. He is currently in Naples as Napoli’s sporting director.
It is understood that the Italian has been following the Dutchman for the past few years and is aiming to sign him once he is at Juve.
Napoli however, aren’t willing to give up and are ready to challenge the Old Lady for the 25-year-old. Moreover, the Atalanta player has a contract until 2025 with an option to extend for another year.
Meanwhile, he is currently valued at around €35-40m and Juve could try to lower the price by including one of their players as part of the deal.
Liverpool close to signing Koopmeiners?
There have been reports that Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen on bringing the midfielder to Anfield this summer. Meanwhile, reports have stated that Juventus will try seriously for the player despite him having a valuation of over €35m and ‘competition from the Premier League’.
It’s claimed the Reds have ‘already taken the first steps’ to acquire the Dutchman’s signature. If Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen to seal the deal for Koopmeiners, they would be in a position to beat Juve because of their better economic resources.
He has impressed across two seasons at Atalanta, while Juventus are also thought to be keen on the 25-year-old. Moreover, he plays alongside Reds duo, Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo for the Netherlands.
Koopmeiners is under contract at Atalanta until 2025. He has 15 caps for the Netherlands since his debut in 2020.
Previously at AZ Alkmaar, he made 154 appearances for them while scoring 43 times and assisting 17 times. Since his move to Atalanta, he has scored 11 goals and provided 7 assists in 75 games.
