Villarreal have confirmed that their key player is injured and will probably be unavailable when they will face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

The Spanish side will face the English club, who are in a good form and are carrying a winning momentum with them. While Liverpool played a draw against Man City in the Premier League and are still just 1 point behind the leaders.

Thereafter, the Reds dominated in the FA Cup semi-final and scored 3 goals against the Citizens in the first half. In doing so, the Reds knocked out the Sky Blues from the FA Cup competition.

Moreover, the Merseyside club have also won the Carabao Cup against Chelsea and now they will look forward to doing the same when these 2 teams meet again in the finals of FA Cup.

Villarreal player injured

Villarreal have confirmed star striker Gerard Moreno has suffered a hamstring injury, putting his availability for their Champions League semi-final clash against Liverpool in serious doubt.

The 30-year-old has been useful for Villareal as he has scored 7 goals in 19 games in La Liga and scored 2 goals in UEFA Champions League after playing 6 matches.

Moreno is a vital player for Villarreal boss Unai Emery and was part of the team that beat Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate to progress to the semi-final stage.

Moreno was forced off with a hamstring problem in Villarreal’s 2-1 victory at Getafe in La Liga on Saturday. He scored their opening goal at the 7th-minute mark. He later made way for Giovani Lo Celso at the hour mark due to a hamstring issue.

Villareal vs Liverpool

However, Villareal will have to play in the semi-final against the Reds with or without the Spanish national who is currently injured. Liverpool will look forward to playing in the UEFA Champions League and reach in the final for the first time after 2019.

Villareal knocked out the 2020 champions Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals to reach the last 4. The 1st leg of the semi-final will be played at Anfield which makes it more difficult for Villareal.
