UCL – Liverpool 2-0 Atletico Madrid: Match Highlights
Liverpool welcomed Atletico Madrid to Anfield for the reverse fixture for another European night. With this one being a decisive clash between Liverpool and Atletico in Group B of the UEFA Champions League as the Reds were just a victory away to book their place in the last 16 let’s have a look at the match highlights.
The Kick off saw an electrifying atmosphere at Anfield. Just like at Wanda Metropolitano, Liverpool were yet again leading with 2 goals at the brink of 20 minutes. Goals from Jota and Mane in quick succession gave The Reds a 2-goal cushion. Meanwhile, Atletico not only found themselves 2 goals down but also a man down. The second half began with some tactical change for Colchoneros as they were down to 10 men. Thus, this left the Portugues Jota to find more space in the box. Thereafter, Jota struck the 3rd goal for The Reds but it was later on ruled out by VAR owing to off-side. Soon after this, the former Liverpool star Luis Suarez found the back of the net for Atletico but it was also deemed to be ruled out. Thus, it could have been more for Liverpool on the night but a 2-0 victory was enough to get them a place in the last 16 of the competition.
With this, now Liverpool sits top on the Group B of the Champions League table. And even if they lost their remaining two group games they will still end up finishing at the top.
