Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken about the suffering captain Virgil Van Dijk went through after the winning goal celebration against Fulham.
After an electrifying match yesterday, the Reds emerged victorious against the Cottagers with a 4-3 scoreline.
The team had to work hard to capture victory, playing at the newly renovated Anfield stadium for the first time.
The Merseysiders started well with a brilliant free-kick from vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, it stood as an own goal as the ball made its way through off of injured Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
But the Anfield giants kept conceding despite the world-class volley that Alexis Mac Allister scored.
But Japanese skipper Wataru Endo stepped up to equalise for LFC in the 87th minute with an accurately placed curler from outside the box.
To finish the match in style, the Reds vice-captain again showed his class with the 88th-minute volley that made sure they were leaving the pitch with the crucial 3 points.
This win took the Merseyside club to the 2nd place in the PL points table, trailing behind the toppers Arsenal by just 1 point.
The club also surpassed Manchester City by 1 point as the Sky Blues drew 3-3 against Tottenham Hotspurs. Speaking after the match to Liverpoolfc.com, Trent said,
“I don’t even know if I can sum it up in one word, delighted really.
We needed the three points with Arsenal getting the result, we needed to stay in touching distance – at this time of year, the games come thick and fast, if you can pick up momentum in the Christmas and January period and come out with wins going into February and March… this isn’t the right time to drop points.”
Revelation from Trent Alexander-Arnold regarding Liverpool vs Fulham
Liverpool’s vice-captain also spoke about his celebration after scoring the winner. He stated,
“I think you can see by the celebration how much it meant.
I’ve got a big cut on my knee so I didn’t want to risk reopening that with a knee slide so I thought I had to do something.
You can see the emotion in it, how much it meant to the team and the fans.”
The right-back revealed that Van Dijk was not fully pleased after what happened during the celebration. He said,
“He’s (Van Dijk) got cuts on his knees because it’s the first time he’s done a knee slide for someone like him who is calm and composed to knee slide shows how much it meant to the team.”
Liverpool will face table bottom dwellers Sheffield United and hopefully continue this good form.
An ardent football fan and a proud Red. I take immense pleasure in analyzing the intricacies of the game.
