The rivalry between Man City and Liverpool in any competition has been absolutely thrilling for many years. Man City and Liverpool have played many matches in Premier League and in every competition. When both the teams play, there is never an obvious winner.

Liverpool and Man City have been in great form this year. There has not been any serious issue over the injuries of the players for the Reds and also the Sky Blues. Every player has been very consistent this whole year and they are looking forward to being the champions of England.

The rivalry between Man City and Liverpool: A poetry in the world of football

Man City will face the Reds for 3rd time this season as they both played their matches against each other in Premier League and they now will lock horns in the FA Cup semi-final on 16th April 2022. Moreover, there is a chance that both teams can play against each other in the UEFA Champions League.

Also, after the final whistle in the last match, there were complaints that if it exists at all, this rivalry was a little too ‘friendly’. This level of mutual respect is nothing new, certainly not between the coaches.

Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have been direct rivals since they both were in Bundesliga. Guardiola with Bayern Munich and Klopp with Borussia Dortmund. Rather than pelting fires at each other through the press, the relationship between them has been comradeship.

Respect between the bosses

Guardiola has previously described his relationship with Klopp as a ”beautiful rivalry” and Klopp has called Guardiola his ”greatest rival ever”. This shows that the coaches have respect for each other. In fact, players also do not hate each other, most of them are friends off the turf.

Players know their rival opponents and have the same respect for them as they have for their teammates. Most players are either from the same country or have played with each other at a point in life.

The respect and admiration comes out of the quality of football both the teams display when they lock horns. Its not about who wins who loses but it’s all about football. No aggression, no disrespect, no abuse but only pure football is what sums up this rivalry, residing in the United Kingdom.
