Liverpool transfer target Frank Kessie is reported to have been offered a contract by the Reds for a potential move in the summer.
Ivory Coast International Frank Kessie is set to leave San Siro after his contract expires at AC Milan at the end of the season.
Moreover, a report from Spain suggests there’s been a major development that favours Liverpool.
According to Sport journalist Thomas Andreau’s report, Barcelona have withdrawn their interest in signing Kessie this summer.
Barcelona are currently rebuilding the team under their new head coach Xavi. And earlier it was reported that Frank Kessie will be brought by the Blaugrana club.
But the Camp Nou outfit has opted out of the race for the 25-year-old’s signature. The Spanish publication reports Barca cannot afford Kessie’s wage demands.
If a powerhouse like Barca is out of the equation then that has to be very good news for other suitors, like Liverpool.
According to reports of Milan Live, Frank Kessie demands €10m-a-year (£8.5m-a-year) which equates to £163,461 a week. If Liverpool matches Kessie’s financial demands then Jurgen Klopp will be getting a dynamic box-to-box midfielder.
The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and rumours suggest Liverpool have already tabled a pre-contract agreement.
Why is Frank Kessie a transfer target for Liverpool ?
Liverpool have plenty of options in midfield, from Thiago to Curtis Jones. But injuries this season and players getting Covid-19 have meant Klopp had to rotate more often than he would like.
Moreover, the future of midfielders Naby Keita and Oxlade Chamberlain remains uncertain in the Anfield club as both the Reds’ contract expires in the summer of 2023. And both of them have been extremely unlucky with injuries but their talent is unquestionable.
Reinforcements in the middle of the park would be a welcome addition.
In Frank Kessie, the Reds would be getting a dynamic player with his best years ahead of him.
Frank Kessie plays as a central midfielder, deployed more of the defensive midfield role. Despite some struggles adapting to Italian football initially upon arrival, Kessie has now become one of the best midfielders in the league.
A dynamic, box-to-box midfielder Kessie is quick-footed. Moreover, his impressive control on the ball often gets him out of tight spots in the field.
In the 2020/21 season, The Ivorian was Milan’s 2nd highest goalscorer, scoring 13 goals, 11 of which were from penalties. But as a defensive midfielder, 13 goals in a season remains a remarkable achievement.
Apart from winning the ball in the middle of the park, Kessie produces excellent attacking output. According to WhoScored, Kessié’s successful passing rate is 88.2 percent, averaged 1.1 tackles per game, 0.8 interceptions, and 0.3 blocks.
Kessie’s energetic style looks a perfect fit for Klopp’s system, and he appears to have all the tools to enable him to excel should he arrive in England’s top division.
