Vozinha on the other hand was given a red card. The goalkeeper was carried off the pitch on a stretcher and reported to have been taken to hospital.

Senegal football chiefs now find themselves under serious criticism for allowing Mane to stay on the pitch. This decision sickened fans of both sides who were watching the game.

Mane went on to score the winner 10 minutes after the aforementioned dangerous clash. He clipped the ball in off the underside of the crossbar after it fell to him at the back post from a corner. However, his night came to an end just minutes later.

After a lengthy VAR review of the goal, Mane dropped on the pitch holding his head before finally being substituted.

Thereafter, Senegal made sure of the victory to make it 2-0 at the injury time. This has set up Senegal for a place in the quarter-final against the winner of Mali and Equatorial Guinea.

However, concern lingers over Mane’s further involvement in the AFCON. While reports do suggest that Mane should be back for the semi-final and final if Senegal qualifies for it. While the Reds winger might remain on the bench for Senegal’s quarter-final on January 30.

If Mane does play in the AFCON final, he will miss Liverpool’s game against Cardiff on 6th February.

On the other hand, Naby Keita watched from the sidelines as Guinea lost their game in the AFCON on Monday. Thus, Keita will now be back in the Liverpool camp soon. Liverpool’s third representative, Mohamed Salah, will play Ivory Coast on Wednesday. Salah will look to get another goal for Egypt in the AFCON, where his performance has been below par.
