Liverpool FC are actively pursuing a potential summer signing to strengthen their midfield, with Ryan Gravenberch, currently playing for Bayern Munich, emerging as a notable target.
Gravenberch, a Dutch midfielder, joined Bayern Munich from Ajax last summer in a deal worth £21 million.
Bayern Munich star’s transfer agent at Anfield
His inaugural season in the German top-tier league saw limited opportunities due to the presence of senior players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in the starting lineup.
Gravenberch made 32 appearances in all competitions, with only five of those being from the starting XI.
In response to speculations surrounding Gravenberch’s future, Bayern Munich President Herbert Hainer expressed his belief in the player’s immense talent and anticipated an increase in his playing time in the future.
However, the recent acquisition of Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig could potentially complicate Gravenberch’s quest for more game time.
What should have been a routine upload to Rafaela Pimenta’s Instagram account in January unavoidably sparked speculation regarding Liverpool’s interest in Ryan Gravenberch.
The Brazilian solicitor, who represents the Bayern Munich midfielder, was at Anfield for a game around the turn of the year, when the Reds were linked with some mid-season midfield surgery.
Gravenberch’s decision
The 21-year-old midfielder has indicated that decisions about his future will be made after the Under-21 European Championships ends in early July. He admitted to De Telegraaf last week,
“I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern. Otherwise at a club where I’ll 100% play. That’s my preference.
I don’t want to have another year like the one I’ve just had. I really learned a lot from it. But I just want to play football.
I haven’t really spoken to the coach (Tuchel) about that yet, that will happen after the Euros when I’m back from Georgia and Romania. Then we’ll see how things are.”
Gravenberch’s inability to secure a spot in Bayern Munich’s starting lineup during Julian Nagelsmann’s tenure might change with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel.
However, there is a possibility that Tuchel could have a similar perception of Gravenberch as his predecessor did.
Liverpool keen to sign Ryan Gravenberch
Liverpool FC’s interest in acquiring Gravenberch is reportedly at an advanced stage, as the club seeks to support Jurgen Klopp’s desire to add the Dutchman to their squad. Gravenberch himself has expressed a readiness for a move if it guarantees him more playing time.
While Liverpool are keen on securing his services, Manchester United, led by coach Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with Gravenberch at Ajax, is also known to be interested in a reunion.
However, Ryan had pledged his allegiance to Bayern Munich when approached by Ten Hag last summer.
The Reds have already acquired Alexis MacAllister from Brighton, and more arrivals are expected, particularly in midfield, with the departures of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain creating opportunities for new talents at Anfield.
After a challenging season in the Premier League, Liverpool are determined to make significant signings to revamp their squad.
Should discussions progress positively, Gravenberch could join Liverpool FC with a contract that matches his current salary at Bayern Munich, amounting to approximately £200,000 per week.
All eyes will be on the developments after the conclusion of the Under-21 European Championship in early July.
