Jamie Carragher felt that the sacking of Graham Potter was ‘inevitable’ as Liverpool now prepare to face a managerless Chelsea outfit.

The London club sacked the English manager after a bitter 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday. The 47 year old manager was appointed back in September, after having impressed at Brighton. He was at the helm for 7 months and managed only 31 games, out of which he won 12.

After the loss to Villa, Chelsea now sit in 11th place with only 10 games to go. Moreover, the London club are in the Quartefinals of the Champions League where they face Real Madrid.

Despite spending £500 million in transfers, it is highly unlikely that the Blues would be finishing in a UCL spot for the next season. Potter is the second manager to be sacked after Tuchel since Todd Boehly bought the club from Roman Abramovich last May.

However, Jamie Carragher took to twitter to share his opinion on the recent news. The Liverpool legend called the sacking to be ‘inevitable’ and believed that Tuchel shouldn’t have been sacked in the first place.

“Todd said he would be different to Roman.

I feel for Graham Potter, but it was inevitable. You don’t change Tuchel for Potter. Ridiculous decision to start with.

Bruno Saltor will be in charge of Chelsea on an interim basis when Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge tomorrow night. The Reds head into the game sitting in eighth place after a 4-1 loss at Manchester City last weekend.

‘Ridiculous decision’: Carragher

The Englishman believes it was a ‘ridiculous decision’ when Boehly decided to sack Thomas Tuchel last September. The German manager had won Chelsea the Champions League in 2021.

Now that Potter has been sacked, it is going to be a huge task for Chelsea at the end of the season. With the CL quarter finals in sight, the Blues would need to sign a manager soon. They have been already rumoured to be linked with Pochhetino, Nagelsmann and even the former manager, Jose Mourinho.

Furthermore, in the Premier League, Chelsea would be facing Liverpool, who would be looking to bounce back from a bitter loss to Man City.
