Liverpool have made an announcement that Rhys Williams will be joining Blackpool on a season-long loan.

Liverpool have had a great transfer window.

They have tried finding the missing pieces in their attack and the midfield. At the same time, there was no need for any new additions in defense, apart from the signing of Calvin Ramsey.

Liverpool’s center-back options are stacked. They have Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahim Konate, and Matip.

These 4 center-backs are among the best in the world. And due to this, young center backs find it difficult to break into the first team. So, they either have to leave on loan or permanently.

So, is the case of Rhys Williams.

Rhys Williams joins Blackpool on loan

Rhys Williams has joined Blackpool on a season-long loan, according to a statement from Liverpool.

The 21-year-old played with Swansea City for the first half of the 2021–22 season while on loan. Although he only made seven appearances for the team before being sent back to Merseyside.

Williams played in 10 Premier League 2 games last season, scoring twice and assisting once. However, he did not appear in any of Jurgen Klopp’s senior team’s matches.

Williams has thus been given permission by the Reds to join Blackpool. They were promoted to the Championship last season.

He told the Blackpool website:

“I’m so happy to be here and I want to show everyone what I can do this season. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

The England Under-21 international made 19 appearances in all competitions in the 2020–21 season. including seven starts in the Premier League. And he was an important member of Liverpool’s first squad.

Williams also took part in every Reds group-stage match during the Champions League that year. As Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Virgil van Dijk were missing most of the season due to injuries.

The defender joins other Liverpool loanees Conor Bradley, Owen Beck, Billy Koumetio, and James Balagizi in the 2022–23 season.
