Liverpool interested in Aston Villa prodigy as he looks set to leave the Villa Park
Aston Villa prodigy Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to leave within the next 12 months after their unsuccessful efforts to persuade him to stay failed.
Although Chukwuemeka has been on the Reds’ radar for some time. Neil Jones of GOAL most recently mentioned him as a potential target at the end of June.
Liverpool loves the youngster. And he plans to replace top target Jude Bellingham with a new midfielder next summer.
A Monday evening update from The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath made the intriguing news much more intriguing.
Villa Prodigy Chukwuemeka says no to a new contract
According to McGrath, Chukwuemeka, 18, was not part of Villa’s pre-season squad for their tour of Australia. This was because he “rejected contract proposals.”
The England under-19 international is anticipated to depart Villa in the near future. Barcelona has already made a bid, despite the fact that his present club values him at £20 million.
Chukwuemeka’s contract will expire in 2023. And that beginning on January 1, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract arrangement with overseas clubs, with Villa then owing a small compensation fee.
Negotiations might be more challenging if Liverpool pursues their interest. It will be similar to their recent agreements for Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho.
If Chukwuemeka were to go as a free agent, a club from abroad would only be required to pay between £300,000 and £400,000, however, an English team would be obliged to pay a substantial compensation sum.
The circumstances involving Elliott and Carvalho highlight both of the available possibilities in this regard.
One option would be to agree on a price that takes into account the player’s calibre, potential, and the club’s assistance in his development. This was also the case when Liverpool and Fulham agreed to a £7.7 million deal for Carvalho.
If that is not practicable, the case will be heard in court by an impartial panel. They will weigh these facts and determine an appropriate charge.
The player’s former team might not benefit from this. For instance, Fulham valued Elliott at over £10 million but only received up to £4.3 million after a tribunal.
Chukwuemeka’s price tag is reported as £20 million. Thus it is fairly clear that Villa would maintain their position if an English club made an offer for their No. 33.
