Liverpool vs Southampton – Player Ratings

Goal Keeper and Defenders

Allison (GK) – 9/10

What a brilliant performance from Alisson. He stood tall and stopped all the shots and took brave decisions in close calls. Snatched the ball from Ward-Prowse and a shot from Armstrong. A very valuable player for the side a cool and composed goalkeeper. Never take him for granted because he’s one of the best in the world.

Trent Alexander Arnold (RB) – 8/10

Another brilliant display from Trent, struggled early with the saint’s press but quickly recovered. Beautiful passes time and time again.

Ibrahima Konate (CB) – 7/10

A good performance after looking sloppy in the midweek game against Porto. Did well alongside Virgil, A solid performance but still needs to improve, to become a solid defender for the Reds along with Virgil Van Dijk.

Virgil Van Dijk (CB) – 8/10

Another brilliant week For Virgil van Dijk. A very solid performance as usual. Scored a goal from the corner with a muted celebration against his former side. Was always there whenever the team needed him.

Andy Robertson  (LB) – 9/10

A vintage Robertson performance from the Scottish Skipper. Brilliantly paired with Mane before a beautifully driven pass to Jota for the first Goal. With Tsimikas playing well, Many thought he should be playing more but Robo showed why he is the number one option. An Outstanding overall performance his passes and crosses were accurate.

Midfielders

Fabinho (CDM) – 8/10

A dominated performance from Fabinho. He made brilliant tackles and superb blocks and stopped Ward-Prowse’s through passes to Armstrong. A good game for the Brazilian.

Jorden Henderson (CM) – 7/10

The Skipper consistent as usual brilliantly rotated the ball on the midfield. Trying to open up the wingers, good build-up play with Trent and Salah. Klopp would be happy to see Henderson playing for long in the pitch after his recent injury.

Thiago Alcantara (CM) – 7/10

The No.6 is getting to play like a proper Reds midfielder these days. He had trouble during the initial stage when the saints were pressing. but later he got into the game. Few miss clearances which created chances for Southhampton but Alisson was there to save the day. Beautiful faint and a good shot to score his second goal of the week.

Forwards

Mohamed Salah (RW) – 9/10

Another brilliant performance From Salah. The Saints couldn’t mark him as he was moving across the wing. Brilliant touches, Beautiful cross to Jota for his second goal. He had some awkward moments where he could have set Jota and Mane but he couldn’t. It’s Salah days and he’s still flying on top.

Diogo Jota  (CF) – 9/10 ( Man of the Match)

Since his transfer, he didn’t take much time to settle in. Since his debut, he’s playing like a Red. Another outstanding performance from the Portuguese striker. Brilliant movements to get both his goals and he was unlucky not to get his hat-trick. He was so difficult to stop and he was finding those pockets of spaces in between the Saints defence.

Sadio Mane (LW) – 8/10

Brilliant header was ruled offside, good defending a brilliant support play with Robo on the left. He played his role to perfection.

Subsitutes

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (CM) – 7/10

Came in for Thiago in the 58th Minute. A nice shot which was saved by McCarthy. Drove forward every time when he got the ball. He’ll want to start for the team so every time he’s on the pitch he’ll try to prove his strength. A good sign for Klopp.

James Milner (CM) – 6/10

Came in to replace the skipper Henderson, took the armband from him. He was pressing since he arrived, kept the pressure on till the end. He made sure that the tempo didn’t fade away.

Takumi Minamino (LW) – N/A

Came in to give Jota a standing ovation, Did plenty of running, good to see that the Japanese International is getting a good amount on the pitch.
