Liverpool eased past Newcastle United 3-1 in their Premier League tie, let’s check an overview on their player ratings. A spectacular performance by The Reds had them win another 3 points. This saw Liverpool climb up the ladder as they now sit one point behind leaders Manchester City.

Jonjo Shelvey gave the visitors an early lead in the 7th minute of the game. However, this was not enough for Newcastle as goals from Jota, Salah and Trent sealed the game for the Reds. Liverpool also had some of their main players start this match.

Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle United: Player ratings

Goalkeeper & Defenders

Alisson (GK) – 7/10

Alisson stood still watching Shelvey’s long-range kick sail into the top corner of the net. He also made an important block from the shot of Allan Saint-Maximin.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 8/10 (Man of the Match)

Trent as usual proved to be a vital player in the starting XI. He made an important interception preventing Ryan Fraser from having a clean shot on target. His rocketing shot past Martin Dubravka sealed the deal for Liverpool.

Joel Matip (CB) – 7/10

Joel Matip created a great impact in the midfield with his presence there. His low and precise passes were sharp enough to penetrate Newcastle’s defensive lines.

Ibrahima Konate (CB) – 6/10

Konate was in good space where he headed wide having plenty of room to add to the scoreline. He too was crucial in handling tricky Allan Saint-Maximin.

Andy Robertson (RB) – 7/10

Andy was really steady down the left side but his contribution towards goals was not much. He was around the opposition box on regular intervals and could have had a couple of assists.

Midfielder

Jordan Henderson (DM) – 6/10

Jordan did look a little sloppy as he struggled in terms of position in Fabinho’s role. He had the most touches than any other Red on this outing.

Thiago (CM) – 5/10

Thiago looked lost with no Fabinho alongside him. He also missed the communication of Virgil Van Dijk and thus seemed a little puzzled out there.

Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain (CM) – 5/10

Alex was doing his usual thing. He just played on the turns and tried giving straightforward passes and was thus not very effective. His intent was very useful though.

Forwards

Mohamed Salah (RW) – 8/10

Salah drove Newcastle players with his flair and tricks. He set up wonderful chances for Mane and Jota with sly play. He was unhappy on being subbed but will help him in being fit for the next match.

Diogo Jota (ST) – 7/10

Diogo Jota broke the deadlock for the home side by netting in the equalizer. Other than that he missed a couple of chances that could have extended the lead.

Sadio Mane (LW) – 5/10

Mane saw his shot being saved with a back-pass from the opposition. He also positioned himself well during counter-pressing.

Subtitues

Naby Keita (CM) – 6/10

Naby came on for Chamberlain and looked like the best midfielder if he had started.

Roberto Firmino (ST) – N/A

Firmino came on for Salah to spend the rest of the time on the pitch and tried making good runs.

James Milner (CM) – N/A

James came nearing full time replacing Thiago and just finished up the match.

Liverpool next have Tottenham on the calendar and will look to prepare well in the span of time in hand.
