Liverpool beat Watford in an important tie at Anfield, let’s have a look at the player ratings.

Player Ratings

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Alisson Becker (GK) – 8/10

The Brazilian shot-stopper made some crucial saves to deny Watford a sniff. Liverpool’s lethal attack was able to capitalise. In fact, after an Alisson save Diogo Jota scored the opener in the 22nd minute. Deserved the clean sheet.

Joe Gomez (RB) – 7/10

Gomez was an able deputy to Trent, although not his ideal position, he still performed admirably. To be honest we didn’t expect him to put in Trent-esque balls, but his set-piece/crossing delivery was superb. He was solid defensively (aside from a howler) as well. Could he be the understudy to Trent that Liverpool were desperately searching for?

Joel Matip (CB) – 7/10

The Cameroonian was industrious at the back and was assured throughout the match. Although, there are some questions over his match sharpness, he was otherwise impeccable.

Virgil van Dijk (CB) – 7.5/10

Virgil van Dijk as always, was at the right place and the right time. He also made things easy for Klopp in general. Truly, running out of superlatives for the titan.

Andrew Robertson (LB) – 7.5/10

Robbo was as devoted to his offensive contributions as his defensive ones. He really is making things difficult for Kostas Tsimikas. Liverpool No. 26 exhibited a balanced performance of the offensive and defensive display.

Midfielders

Curtis Jones (CM) – 5.5/10

The young Scouser is finding things difficult for him at the moment. It was an unremarkable performance against really, an unremarkable opposition. Perhaps, a loan spell away would help?

Jordan Henderson (CM) – 5.5/10

The skipper is an enigma. How can a player with such brilliant performances against elite sides such as AC Milan, United, and Arsenal dish out such anonymous performances against bottom-feeders Watford?

Thiago Alcantara (CM)- 9/10 (Man of the Match)

Thiago is a gem. He might be the best midfielder in the world right now as, he dished out display of what midfielders should aspire to be. Stepping in attack and defence with wherever needed, his intelligence off the ball is only matched by his grace on the ball.

Forwards

Roberto Firmino (ST) – 6.5/10

Bobby was tireless as always, dropping in midfield to provide passing options and then linking up play further up the pitch. However, he wasn’t able to display his poacher instincts probably because of a weaker midfield today.

Diogo Jota (LW) – 7/10

The king of headers scored from an impeccable Joe Gomez cross. The Portuguese forward has now scored in 4 out of 5 matches for club and country. He also scored his 20th goal of the season.

Mohamed Salah (RW) – 6/10

Salah had a quiet afternoon. The Egyptian couldn’t get on the scoresheet and was visibly tired throughout the match. Subbed.

Substitutes

James Milner (CM) – N/A

Hey there.

Sadio Mane (LW) – 6/10

His addition to the game added some verve to Liverpool’s attack but was unable to have an impact in terms of assists or goals.

Fabinho (CM) – 7/10

Fabinho was Liverpool’s best player in certain stretches of the game in both parts of the pitch. He made a crucial tackle to snuff out Watford’s attack and coolly scored a penalty to calm down a nervous crowd at Anfield.
