Liverpool beat Brighton in a routine victory at the Amex, let’s have a look at the player ratings.
Player Ratings Brighton vs Liverpool
Goalkeepers & Defenders
Alisson Becker (GK) – 7/10
The Brazilian didn’t have much to do at the beginning of the game. But he made some great saves and his intelligent distribution almost led to a goal when his distribution found Trent, who released Luis Diaz. All in all, a deserved clean sheet.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 7.5/10
Trent. Is. The. Best. In. The. World. The right-back had an impeccable afternoon, where he made recovery runs and blocks. His intelligent balls resemble that of prime Andrea Pirlo. Let’s just hope that he continues his run of performances.
Joel Matip (CB) – 7/10
Fresh-off his player of the month honor, Matip was composed and calm throughout. He even got an assist for Luis Daiz’s goal.
Virgil van Dijk (CB) – 7/10
Virgil van Dijk is a titan. He can move mountains; drain rivers and he can do no wrong. His performance was assured at the back and he marshalled the defence well.
Andrew Robertson (LB) – 7/10
The left-back wasn’t his fluent best going forward, but he did enough defensively to justify his rating.
Midfielders
Fabinho (CM) – 7/10
Liverpool’s lighthouse was reliable as always in front of the defence, showing exactly why there is nobody in Europe better in his position.
Much of what Fabinho did may not have been spectacular, but he won second balls, kept possession and made interceptions when required.
Jordan Henderson (CM) – 6/10
The skipper had an imprecise game, he wasn’t his best in the final third, but he moved the ball well. His passing was a bit suspect at times but he was confident and his leadership insured the win.
Naby Keita (CM)- 7/10
Keita is becoming proto-Wijnaldum, sacrificing his attacking instincts for a more controlling role in place of Thiago. Aside from a sloppy pass in the beginning, he was impressive.
Forwards
Luis Diaz (ST) – 8/10 (Man of the Match)
Liverpool’s transfer department has found another gem. The Colombian was electric going forward. His pace, instincts, and dribbles constantly troubled Lamptey. He deservedly got a goal but was selfish in a chance, where he could have squared to Jota.
Sadio Mane (LW) – 6.5/10
He is doing well in a number ten role, where he drops off and invites press; before laying off to Liverpool’s other forwards. Firminoesque if you will.
Mohamed Salah (RW) – 7/10
The Egyptian scored a penalty to bag his 20th league goal of the season, before going off with a knock, which is a concern.
Substitutes
Thiago (CM) – 7/10
The Spaniard was introduced to give him some game time so that he is at the top of the game. for the big one against Arsenal.
Diogo Jota (LW) – 6/10
Injury has set back his season, we hope he regains his match sharpness.
James Milner (CM) – N/A
