In the middle of a war between two powerhouses, Premier League fixtures remained untouched as Liverpool welcomed Leeds on their home turf only to crash them, let’s have a look at the match highlights.
Liverpool were all ready to treat the Anfield road with a ton of goals and close the gap at the apex of Premier League. The Reds goalkeeper Alisson almost gifted a goal to The Peacocks in the initial 5 minutes. However, Leeds failed to capitalize on it which gave Liverpool a breather to build on their game. Thereafter it was all about Liverpool, who were awarded a spot-kick courtesy of a hand ball which Mohamed Salah stuck past Meslier.
Soon after, Matip made a clueless run into the Leeds box only to find the back of the net and give Liverpool a 2 goal cushion. With this, the Reds end the first half with another conversion from the spot to give them a 3 goal lead at halftime.
The Egyptian forward wanted to take home the match ball as he kept on looking for a hattrick in the second half. Salah missed on a few decent chances but played on some top-class passes. As a result of which, Sadio Mane struck one at the brink of the 80th-minute mark.
Thereafter, Liverpool’s bench legend Divock Origi arrived. The Belgian forward took on a shot which eventually fell onto Mane’s foot to give him a brace on the night. With this, Liverpool registered 5 on the night but Virgil van Dijk was still hungry and the no. 4 scored from a corner which was the last head on the ball to sum up the game as 6 nil in favour of the Reds.
Liverpool now sits just 3 points behind the leaders Man City. The two-horse title race is on again.
