Mohamed Salah will be trying to equal the Champions League record set by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Thierry Henry, when Liverpool takes on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Liverpool will face off against Real Madrid for the European Glory this weekend. The Reds have had a great journey coming to this final. They won all their matches in the ‘group of death. And showed great spirit in the Knockout rounds against the likes of Inter and Villareal.

Real Madrid on the other hand, have had an underdog journey. They have shown why are they the most successful European club of all time. The Los Blancos have had comeback victories over big money clubs like PSG, Chelsea, and Man City in the KO rounds. With Benzema being their Main man. The French international has scored 15 goals this season while 10 of them came in the KO rounds.

On the other hand, Liverpool’s main has been the Egyptian King, Mo Salah. The Egyptian has enjoyed one of his best seasons. And is in strong contention to win the Ballon d’Or alongside teammate Sadio Mane and the Final opponent Karim Benzema being the others in contention.

Mo Salah Eyes Champions League Record

The 30-year-old had another outstanding season in front of goal, scoring 31 goals in 50 appearances for the Reds in all competitions.

Eight of those goals have come in the Champions League this season. This brings his total to 33 in the competition under head coach Jurgen Klopp.

Only three players in Champions League history have scored more goals while playing for a single manager. Lionel Messi scored 43 goals under former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola. Van Nistelrooy scored 35 goals under former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. And also Thierry Henry, who scored 35 goals under former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Salah’s brace at the Stade de France on Saturday would bring him level with Van Nistelrooy and Henry on the list. While a stunning hat-trick in the final would put him in exclusive possession of the second spot.

Meanwhile, Salah recently won the Premier League Golden Boot trophy with Son Heung Min. He also won the Playmaker honour assisting 13 times in the Premier League this season.

This is Reds’ 9th European Meeting with Real Madrid. This is the most two clubs have met in the competition’s history. The Merseyside giants are winless in their last 5 encounters losing 4 and drawing one including the 2018 final.

This will also be their third meeting in the European Final. With both teams winning one each, it will be a tie-breaker.

Victory for Liverpool would take them Level with AC Milan. As they will become the 2nd most successful champions league team of all time.

While, If Los Blancos take the trophy home. They will have twice as many trophies as anyone else.

This will be Klopp’s 9th time meeting Real Madrid In the UCL. The most he has played against any opponent in the competition. His record against the La Liga Champions is quite under-whelming as the Gaffer has just a 33% win record against them.

Fans are in for a treat. When these two European Giants will collide. The Roof will definitely blow off.
