Well, here we are again – another round of “Is Mo Salah staying or going?” after Liverpool’s 3-0 stroll past Manchester United at Old Trafford, Salah, fresh off a goal and two assists, hinted that his days at Anfield are numbered.
With his contract expiring next summer, he mentioned – casually, of course – that no one at the club had even bothered to talk to him about extending his stay. Seriously? No one? That’s unbelievable.
But there is more behind the curtain. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, this is not the end of Mo Salah contract drama. In fact, Liverpool are planning to sit down for a little chat – not just with Salah, but also with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also approaching the dreaded expiration date.
Mo Salah’s contract drama: Is it really curtains or just act one?
Romano made it clear on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast that Salah’s future is still very much in the air, and club is not ready to bid him goodbye just yet. Romano said:
“Liverpool have to discuss with Mo Salah, Trent Alexander Arnold – and the same will happen obviously with Virgil van Dijk.
“So talks will follow to understand the future of these players. As of today, it is not over at all between Salah and Liverpool. Talks will follow and we will see how these discussions will go on the project, on the contract, the length of the contract, and obviously money and salary.
“This is always very important, and so conversations are set to take place – and then we will understand the final future of Mo Salah.”
Salah has more than earned the right to these negotiations. Remember when everyone questioned if he’d maintain his electric form after that contract extension in 2022? Well, he shut down those doubts, scoring 31 goals in all competitions the season before and topping Liverpool’s charts again last season with 25 goals.

This year? He is already on three goals and three assists after just three games. Not bad for someone allegedly on his way out. And let us not forget Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold. One is a towering Dutch defender still at the top of his game and the other is the face of Liverpool and future captain material.
Losing them? Nothing less of a nightmare.
