Former Liverpool man Luis Suarez has confirmed his return to his childhood club in Uruguay, 16 years after leaving.

The 35 years old Uruguayan is going back to Nacional after playing in Europe for 16 years. Suarez as a senior professional played for five different clubs during his time in Europe. In January 2011 Liverpool bought Luiz Suarez from Ajax in a £22.8 million deal and was the club’s most expensive signing at that time.

He has scored 82 goals in 133 games and has been an exciting prospect for the club even with those controversies. In 2014 Suarez leaves for Barcelona for £75 million, where he spent six years before a move to Atletico Madrid.

In these 16 years in Europe, Suarez has played 658 matches and scored 425 goals. He was one of the best strikers of his time and he has won 17 trophies.

Luis Suarez and Nacional

Suarez joined the Nacional youth team at the age of 14. His first senior appearance for the club was at the age of 18 and helped Nacional win the 2005–06 Uruguayan league. Moreover, the next season the Dutch side Groningen paid €800,000 for the forward and his journey in Europe begins.

After a wonderful career in Europe Luiz Suarez has decided to go back to his boyhood club where it all began. Moreover, Suarez became a free agent this summer after no new contract with Atletico.

Suarez in his Twitter video

“First of all, I wanted to thank you for the love through all the messages that both I and my family have received in recent days, which has been impressive,”

That touched our hearts at this moment that we had to make a decision.

“And it was impossible to waste this opportunity of playing again in Nacional and we have a pre-agreement with the club.

“In the next few hours, details will be finalised and we hope that the agreement we all want will be reached and that we can all enjoy this new stage and see each other in the coming days.”

Nacional plays in the Uruguayan Primera Division and it will see Suarez play again for the club after 16 years.
