Raheem Sterling has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea. It sounds quite odd, but a well-known English journalist says that Liverpool were thinking of a transfer before Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Sterling has already agreed to personal terms. And will finalize his transfer from Man City to Chelsea soon.

The forward has just one year left on his contract. And Chelsea will sign him for a “cut-price cost,”. And a deal between the clubs is imminent.

This is the first trade between Manchester City and Chelsea since Daniel Sturridge joined the London club in 2009. It will unarguably be one of the most notable summer transfers.

Sterling is currently 27 and has already played in 466 games for Man City and Liverpool. He has made 320 Premier League and 72 Champions League appearances. And he may be a great addition to Chelsea.

Liverpool were thinking of signing Raheem Sterling

John Cross even stated that before Chelsea signed Sterling, the Reds were among the clubs interested in signing him.

Cross is The chief football writer for the Mirror. And he also lists Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain as potential bidders for Sterling.

Given that Liverpool spent £92.7 million on Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho last summer. It seems unlikely that they were actually interested in trading for their former No. 31.

Before reiterating that “there is no question that Europe’s elite were all keen,”. The study even says that “it needs to be determined how concrete their desire was.”

To put it mildly, Anfield did not take Sterling’s attempts to force through a transfer from Liverpool well, especially after an ill-advised 2015 interview with the BBC.

However, he has since expressed regret over the method in which he left. And in an Instagram Q&A back in 2020, in response to a query about a potential comeback, he said the Reds “are always in my heart.”

However, this seems like a casual assertion of Liverpool’s interest based on scant information.

This is most likely just an assumption made on the basis of the fact that given his circumstances, a club of their calibre would have at least floated the idea.
