Atletico Madrid benchwarmer Matheus Cunha on Liverpool’s radar
According to recent reports, Liverpool wants to sign Atletico Madrid’s Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian is currently a benchwarmer at Atletico.
Diego Simeone’s club bought striker Matheus Cunha from German outfit Hertha Berlin in the summer transfer window. Signed for a fee of around 25 million Euros, Cunha has struggled to find consistent game time.
Reds want Brazil’s Olympic star Matheus Cunha
The 22-year-old had a great Olympics for Brazil. In five games, he scored three goals and gave one assist.
Despite the limited game time, Matheus Cunha has still kept his form in the front of the league. In 479 minutes in the league, Cunha has scored four times and has given two assists.
According to the report, Klopp is looking at Cunha as a backup option for his starting front three. Knowing his obvious talent, Cunha will not only provide ample cover but will also give tough competition to the club’s stars.
Having played in Germany under a manager who likes to press, Cunha will fit right in. For Atletico Madrid, Cunha has averaged 22.85 pressures per 90. Out of them, on average he completes 5.74. These stats are one of the best in Europe.
Cunha is also a very skilful dribbler, like many Brazilians. On average he completes around 2.14 dribbles per 90, while also dribbling past 2.32 players per 90. ( stats taken from Fbref)
If Liverpool can sign Matheus Cunha, they can finally let Origi and Minamino leave. According to reports, Minamino is on the shortlist of clubs like Leeds United, while Divock Origi is Atlanta and Fiorentina’s.
Liverpool have been very active in the last few days of the winter transfer window. They have not only signed Luis Diaz but are also linked with a number of players.
This list includes Kalvin Phillips, Youri Tielemans, Toni Kross, and Cody Gakpo. However, the deal for Fabio Carvahlo, a player heavily linked with Liverpool, may fall short now due to technicalities.
Divock Origi and Minamino are not the only Liverpool players linked with a move away from the club. The list also includes Nat Phillips, who Newcastle are ready to sign.
