Liverpool are reportedly hot on their wheels to sign a Euro 2024 final star to beef up their squad for the new season with Marc Guehi as he has dazzled fans with stellar performances in Germany this summer. But he comes with a hefty price tag of $85 million (£65 million/€77 million).

The Crystal Palace defender was not Gareth Southgate’s first choice for England’s defence originally.

An unfortunate injury to Harry Maguire paved the way for Guehi to partner with Manchester City’s John Stones in the heart of the defence.

Guehi seized the opportunity to become one of the standout players for the Three Lions, helping them reach their second consecutive Euros final.

He started six out of their seven matches and contributed to two clean sheets. This followed an impressive domestic season where he played 29 games and helped Crystal Palace secure a top-half finish in the Premier League.

Guehi For Liverpool?

Liverpool are eager to fortify their defence this season. As we all know from the great Alex Ferguson,

“Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.”

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are serious admirers of the ex-Chelsea defender and are currently in negotiations with Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have slapped a hefty $85 million price tag on Guehi, who still has two years left on his contract. While Palace are not desperate to sell, they might be tempted if the right offer lands on the table.

Liverpool’s current centre-back options include Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah.

However, new manager Arne Slot may want to add more experience to his backline, and Guehi fits the bill perfectly.

England teammate and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham called him ‘brilliant’ following England’s opening group stage victory over Serbia last month. Following the full-time whistle, he said:

“He was brilliant. He picked the lines amazingly.

He led against two, for me, really good centre-forwards at this level in (Dusan) Vlahovic and (Aleksandar) Mitrovic, two really, really tricky customers.

It will help a lot when he has (John) Stones beside him, one of the best around. He was fantastic.”

With England’s squad now returning home after their heartbreaking defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, it is expected that negotiations for Guehi will intensify.

Following Joel Matip’s departure at the end of last season, Liverpool are eager to find a suitable replacement.

Given Guehi’s impressive track record, it would not be surprising to see Liverpool push hard to secure his signature.
