Johnny Heitinga will join Arne Slots coaching staff at Liverpool bringing a wealth of playing and coaching experience, he has over 100 caps for his country to the team.
Johnny Heitinga Targetted By Liverpool Boss
According to Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan Liverpool plans to bring Johnny Heitinga on board as a coach.
Former Everton, Fulham and Atletico Madrid defender Heitinga said he has been contacted by Liverpool and is speaking with his agent Rob Jansen.
Arne Slot, the new manager at Anfield who took over after Jurgen Klopp left, made the move as part of a reorganising. Along with Klopp, a number of important members of Slot’s backroom staff departed.
Arne Slot Bringing In Former Colleagues
Several reliable Feyenoord colleagues have already been brought in by Arne Slot including lead physical performance coach Ruben Peeters and his right-hand man Sipke Hulshoff.
Other appointments are Fabian Otte as goalkeeping coach and Aaron Briggs as individual development coach for the first team.
Slot’s team is still rather small in spite of these new hires which is probably why he approached Heitinga.
Van der Kraan emphasized Heitinga’s outstanding qualifications which include more than 100 caps for the Netherlands on the international scene and coaching experience at Ajax’s academy.
The Anfield Beckons
Given his history with Everton Heitinga’s decision to join Liverpool, is noteworthy however he stated that,
“Look, Everton could have brought me in but they didn’t so my coaching career is carrying on.”
Van der Kraan highlighted Heitinga’s useful coaching background and his experience as a player which included competing in a FIFA World Cup Final.
Although Slot has had a great career he does not have the same level of playing experience as Heitinga so this background is seen as a serious advantage.
With Slot taking over as manager this appointment should strengthen Liverpool’s coaching staff.
