Liverpool have made a new formal bid for their long-term midfield target, Romeo Lavia after Southampton reportedly rejected their first bid.
As stated by the current Saint’s boss, Russell Martin, the 19-year-old is said to have been handling the situation very well.
The former Manchester City academy player has been described as a ‘sensational midfielder.’ He was the stand-out player in the Saint’s PL season last time out.
Even though the South Coast side went down, he has been attracting huge interest from around Europe. His former employers, City were also rumoured to have been interested in bringing back the player to Etihad.
After the departure of Riyad Mahrez, the Treble winners reportedly wanted to activate the buy-back clause in his contract.
However, this remained a rumour and Liverpool have had relief. The Belgian played in their pre-season in their 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.
After the game, the boss spoke about the youngster.
“Romeo played 45 minutes tonight, it was good for him and it was good for us. He may still be here, he may not, I don’t have any idea but his attitude was brilliant.
That’s all you can ever ask, when they are here they give everything they have got and he’s done that. We’ll just have to wait and see how it pans out.”
Moreover, in Liverpool’s interest, he said that the player is handling really well.
“It’s incredibly tough. He has handled it really well. I think the easiest thing in the world is to say I’m not playing tonight, or to come out and to not give everything he’s got, which he did.”
Liverpool to submit a second bid for Romeo Lavia
The Reds are reportedly readying a new formal bid for the Belgian. As per Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are ready to bid £45m for Romeo Lavia.
The Athletic is also reporting that the Anfield club is “set to make an improved offer” for the Belgium international and that Chelsea “retains a firm interest” in the player.
The Reds are not the only ones interested in the player as Pochettino’s Chelsea as well wants to sign him.
Moreover, Plettenberg has revealed that Lavia “wants to join” the Reds, and the “verbal agreement is done” between the player and club. The only stumbling block would appear to be an agreement over the transfer fee.
With the player already keen on the move it should only be a matter of time before the deal gets over the line.
