Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has announced that their star defender Virgil Van Dijk won’t able to take part in Carabao Cup against Man City.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City will clash against the Reds in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup at the Etihad Stadium next week.

The “Normal One” said that he is not going to use the 31-year-old center-back in the team.

Van Dijk will be missed in the Carabao Cup

The Netherlands international is back in training with his Liverpool teammates after playing for his country at the Qatar World Cup 2022.

Moreover, Klopp also claims the Red’s captain Henderson and the English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold are also doubtful against the Sky Blues.

Klopp said:

“Yeah, there is a chance of course-they train already. Hendo is already training here. Virgil is training here but I don’t think we will try that. Hendo we will see, Trent we will see”.

Klopp also added,

” we will make the decision obviously on Wednesday who can play on Thursday.”

City vs Liverpool

Previously when Liverpool faced Man City in the Carabao cup semi-final, Sadio Mane was the star man at that event. His two crucial goals and Konate’s giant header guided the Merseyside giants to a 3-2 victory over the Manchester side. This year Liverpool already has tasted a win over The Citizens, where the Alisson-Salah combo produced an amazing goal for the Reds.

Klopp and Pep have pushed each other from their Bundesliga days. There have been 26 meetings between these two masterminds, registering six draws. The Spaniard has won nine times on the other hand the German has bagged eleven wins. While this one will be yet another knockout contest between arguably the best two modern managers.

All eyes on the Cup

Liverpool are gearing up for the second half of the league. With their star defender at their sideline, would the English side be able to recreate what had been done in Anfield?

Predicted XI

Alison Milner, Konate, Matip, Robertson, Elliot, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Firmino, Nunez.
