Liverpool players that could leave this summer

Liverpool players that could leave this summer

The current Liverpool squad is the best in its FSG era, but certain players will leave this summer. Let’s have a look.

Liverpool have undergone numerous changes under the manager Klopp. From playing Europa League football to becoming champions of the World, Europe, and England.

Moreover, the brand of football the players display in Liverpool shirt is totally entertaining. The recruitment, management, and playing style all have been top-notch of the club.

Meanwhile, this season, Liverpool’s performance on the pitch has been scintillating with all squad members going all out for the unprecedented Quadruple.

Klopp & Co. have already bagged the EFL cup, and now through to the FA Cup final and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. Moreover, they just sit a point below Man City in the league table.

The Reds’ squad depth has never been so stronger.

Apart from the team’s unbelievable performances that have made headlines, contract discussions have also dominated the Liverpool discourse over the recent months.

By the end of the season, things will be different. Some players will move on from the Merseyside.

We have come into the final weeks of the 2021/22 season, the games are coming thick and fast. Jurgen Klopp has a strong and big pool of talents to go all out for their dream of winning an unprecedented four trophies.

Liverpool have 22 senior outfield players competing for a place in Klopp’s matchday squad. He can name 20 players altogether for domestic matches, while in Europe that total rises to 23. Clearly, some players are going to be left disappointed, temporarily out in the cold on a weekly basis.

Moreover, with some players out of contract and some others will move out for more game time.

Players out of contract

James Milner

The veteran is still going strong and moreover, Liverpool fans still picture him at Anfield at the age of 36. Milner is an invaluable asset for Klopp on and off the pitch as he provides versatility and leadership skills behind the scenes.

The vice-captain could sign a one-year extension with the club.

Divock Origi

The Belgian is a cult hero on the Merseyside, having scored some dramatic goals over the years. But the time has come when he bid goodbye to Liverpool.

Reportedly, AC Milan looks like Origi’s next destination.

Loris Karius

The forgotten man of the club finally looks destined to leave Anfield on a permanent basis. After his misfortune in the 2018 Champions League final, the German went on to play for Besiktas and Union Berlin on loan deals.

Adrian

The Spaniard signed a new one-year contract with Liverpool last summer. It was slightly surprising though having fallen in third in the goalkeeping pecking order behind Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Adrian featured just once this season, and it would be no surprise if he moves this summer.

More Liverpool players

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Englishman’s injury records have derailed his progress in the Liverpool. Chances have been few and far between this season and, with others ahead of him, now could be the right time to seek pastures new.

Out of contract in 2023, Liverpool will try to offload him this summer in order to recoup some of the money they paid him for nearly five years ago.

Takumi Minamino

The Japanese International has struggled to break into the playing eleven when he arrived two years back. Minamino has emerged as a cup specialist this season. In Carabao Cup he has registered four goals in five games in the earlier round, moreover, scored three goals in four FA Cup ties.

But his lack of minutes in the Premier League and Champions League could lead the Japanese to move elsewhere in the summer.

Ben Davies

Ben Davies was signed by Liverpool amidst Liverpool’s center-back shortage last season January. Currently, on loan with Sheffield United in Championship, it would surprising if he doesn’t depart again.

Davies finds himself lower down the order with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez, ahead of him.

Nat Phillips

Liverpool’s star performer last season, emerging as at the heart of their center-back injury crisis. But the defender has played only once for Liverpool this season as his appearance came in the Champions League game at San Siro before moving to AFC Bournemouth on a long deal in January.

But his impressive performances don’t change his situation at Anfield. Better improved offers could lure the Reds to sanction his move elsewhere.

Ben Woodburn

The Wales international is currently in the final year of his Liverpool contract. Meanwhile, playing for Hearts in a loan deal.

It can be concluded, that Walesman has no future in Klopp’s squad. It is suggested that he will leave the club once his contract comes to an end.

Neco William

Another Welshman, whose future seems to be outside Anfield. Currently on loan at Fulham and shining bright at Craven Cottage since arriving in January this year.

Behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order, he will be allowed to depart to become first-choice elsewhere and cement his place in Wales’ squad for a potential World Cup appearance.

There is a big question mark over the future of Liverpool’s front three Salah, Mane, and Firmino. But before, let’s understand Naby Keita and Joe Gomez’s situation in the club.

Naby Keita’s contract expires at the same time alongside Salah, Mane, and Firmino. The problem for Keita is his injury records. The Guinea international has been great when gets regular game time.

But as soon as Keita finds his rhythm, he faces injury issues. Frustrating at times, but the FSG board has a big decision to make regarding his future. Naby is yet to sign his fresh contract.

Meanwhile, defender Joe Gomez’s only focus is to get into the plane alongside his England teammates to World Cup in Qatar. His lack of game time at Liverpool isn’t helping him in his cause.

Klopp would love to keep him next season but doesn’t guarantee regular playtime. With Aston Villa already shown interest in bringing Gomez to Villa Park, probably a loan move could be sanctioned next season.

Keeping Liverpool’s front three beyond next summer seems very challenging. Mane has obviously done his own hopes of a new deal no harm, with his agent recently saying talks were on hold until the summer.

Similarly, Salah is currently focused on finishing the season-high. Meanwhile, Firmino remains an interesting one, as the club would see Salah and Mane’s situation first and then accordingly decide on Firmino’s future.

Liverpool wants to keep the trio as long as possible.
