Liverpool Player Ratings vs Arsenal

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Alisson (GK) – 7.5/10

Making a return after testing positive for Covid, the Brazilian managed to keep a clean sheet. Making his EFL cup debut, the 29-year-old had little to do. Alisson made one save throughout the 90 minutes. However, he was content and confident on the ball, and also came out of his line quickly.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB) – 5/10

You cannot expect much from a player who has just returned from isolation due to Covid-19. The 23-year-old looked slow on the ball and his corners were lukewarm, to say the least. He failed to create a single chance in the game.

Joel Matip (CB) – 8/10

Probably the best Liverpool on the night, the 30-year-old was a clear standout. He looked composed while defending and was able to even create one chance. The man of the match for many people, the Cameronian was in top form.

Virgil Van Dijk (CB) – 7/10

While the Dutchman produced a few shaky moments, he remained strong in the air. He completed the most passes in the match (80), while also showing off his long-range passing.

Andrew Robertson (LB) – 6.5/10

Playing against a third-choice right-side, Robertson failed to capitalise. While he provided plenty of energy, his characteristic crosses failed to deliver. Even though he created 3 chances, more was expected from him.

Henderson (CM) – 5/10

Nothing seemed to have gone well for Henderson on Thursday. The midfield as a unit lacked strength, but Henderson especially looked vulnerable. He had no significant contributions to the game other than a couple of successful pressures.

Fabinho (CM) – 6/10

Probably the best player in the midfield, Fabinho had a passing accuracy of 95%, the highest on the pitch. He played well with the ball and recycled possession well. However, looked tired after playing four games in quick succession.

James Milner (CM) – 5/10

The thirty-six-year-old, just like Henderson, failed to link the midfield with the attack. While he threw himself around in typical Milner fashion, he failed to have quick ball movement.

Diogo Jota (RW) – 5/10

Playing on the unfamiliar right-hand side Jota struggled. He lost possession the most times (3) yesterday and had no shots at all. His most notable moment in the game was his run which led to Xhaka’s red card. Keeping in mind his record against Arsenal, this performance was even more disappointing.

Takumi Minamino (LW) – 5.5/10

Having scored in all the EFL fixtures till now, a lot was expected of Minamino. While he was energetic, he failed to convert any of the six shots that he took. He even got into Firmino’s way during a promising mazy run.

Roberto Firmino (ST) – 6.5/10

One of the few bright notes from Thursday was the 30-year-old Roberto Firmino. In his first start since December 22, Firmino was able to use his quick feet and pressure really well. However, he failed to get a single shot on target and created only one chance.

Curtis Jones – 7/10

Immediately injected a spark after coming on for Milner in the 61st minute. He was able to create 2 chances and had 2 shots, one of them on target.

Neco Williams – 6/10

Coming on for Trent in the 75th minute, like Jones he also brought a much-needed spark. Couldn’t do much other than pump balls into the box, but a good cameo regardless.

Joe Gomez – 5/10

He was brought in to create late pressure, and he did. Nothing too extraordinary from the 24-year-old.

Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain – 6/10

A good enough cameo but failed to have any real impact on the game altogether.
